Love can be in the air at Limmud

By Keren Lipschitz, volunteer for Limmud-Oz 2015

Reason # 18 to attend Limmud-Oz - you might strike gold and find some love. Although if you are happily partnered/married, Limmud-Oz would prefer that you just stuck to platonic love.  For the singles however, go for gold.

5 years ago I headed to Limmud-Oz Fest with a good friend from Melbourne who was no stranger to Limmud-Oz. I also managed to convince a friend, a novice to Limmud-Oz to come camping for the weekend.  As luck would have it, they met (well, not really luck, more like opportunity meeting serendipity).  They became friends.  They started an interstate romance and became best friends.  And now they are getting married in two months.  Whilst I can't really claim that I introduced them as such, surely I get half a point for bringing the two friends to the same Limmud-Oz event?

Perhaps I can claim another half a point from a Limmud-Oz event 6 years ago.  I attended the opening event of Limmud-Oz on the Saturday night, and after such a high, a few friends and I decided to organise an impromptu after party to show off Sydney to a couple of international presenters.  I invited a few friends to come, and serendipity met opportunity once more when two friends started chatting.  And chatting.  They too became friends.  Then best of friends.  They wed and now have a very cute Limmud-Oz baby!!

It's not your traditional meat market.  It's not J-Junction or J-Date.  But who knows what conversation may begin during hevrutah, a meal, a movie or a dance?
In any case, if finding love isn't on your agenda, or it isn't your time just yet, it can't hurt making new friends.

It may not be the best reason to go to Limmud, but you never know who you might meet.  What are your other 17 reasons you should go  to Limmud?
