Family fun at Limmud Fest

The beautiful Limmud Fest site
Calling all parents! Let me take you to a place where you can escape the stresses of everyday life, surrounded by nature, stimulating discussions and amazing people. Where else can you relax, knowing your kids are having the time of their lives, in the safety and care of trained child and youth educators as they experience a weekend like no other – filled with games, sports, learning, drama, cooking, music and more! Sound like paradise? Well, it’s pretty close…this is Limmud Fest!

My name is Rikki and I am the Young Limmud co-ordinator for this upcoming Limmud Fest, November 28-30. The Young Limmud children’s program aims to provide a blend of exciting yet educational activities for the youngest members of our community (from years K-6), while parents can enjoy the full breadth of programming available throughout the weekend. All meals are kosher and included so that also means no washing up or preparing food for an entire weekend!

A bit about me: I grew up in Netzer, one of the Jewish Youth Movements. I was a Netzer Youth Leader for over 3 years, running hundreds of fun, engaging and informal, Jewish and Israel inspired programs for kids and teenagers. I’ve worked on Israeli summer camps, in a kibbutz children’s house and kindergarten and was a teacher at the Board of Jewish Education and Emanuel Synagogue. The other half of the Young Limmud team, Becky, is an experienced Primary School teacher at Emanuel School and has so many amazing ideas for activities it’s been hard to fit them all in the schedule!

Some of the activities we have planned for young Limmudniks this year include rock climbing, slam poetry workshops and planting trees for Tikkum Olam (that’s Hebrew for ‘repairing the world’). We've also lined up a Theatresports workshop, a Maccabiah Games sports carnival, as well as a trivia game that’s going to blow their minds!

We also have a number of activities that parents can be involved in with their children if they want to take a break from the adult program and hang out with us! There will be a Shabbat family bushwalk, Hebrew cookie baking and decorating, friendship bracelet making and some pre-Shabbat arts and crafts such as Havdallah candle making and challah cover decorating. You can see the full Young Limmud program here

There’s something for everyone at Limmud Fest and we can’t wait for you to experience the unique Limmud Fest vibe that brings people back year after year. There are lots of different accommodation options at Limmud Fest including camping and indoor accommodation.

Hands on activities at Fest are always popular
