Hi all,

I’d like to share some of the progress our Young Limmud committee is making in the lead up to Yom Limmud 2014 - Sunday 15th June; put it in your diary now, yes all of you!

What is Young Limmud? Young Limmud runs a children's program concurrently with the adults program for those in Kindergarten to Year 6. For those not in Kindergarten yet we have an organised childcare option. (Stay tuned to this blog for more details).

The Young Limmud program wants to be more than just babysitting. We aim to provide a blend of exciting yet educational activities for the youngest members of our community, while the adults enjoy the breadth of programming available during the day.

Each year Young Limmud gets better and better and we are very excited about this year's program. Young Limmud 2014 is focused on the theme of Noah’s Ark. The story of Noah has many important lessons for all ages as well as giving us some creative and fun ideas for hands-on activities! With Sharon, Anna, Teresa, Kitty and myself I have no doubt that Young Limmud 2014 will have your kids begging to come back next year!

Young Limmud met recently for a very productive meeting. We don’t want to reveal all the details as we want the kids to have a surprise, but we will tell you this: there is something for everybody!

We pinned down our activities and made sure we had enough people to cover all the sessions. We have confirmed art, music, krav maga, cooking, sport with Maccabi, a petting zoo and even managed to wiggle in some free time.

We continued to have great ideas for people to contact such as Magen David Adom (MDA) to see if they would like to run a child-friendly first aid course. We want all our activities to be fun but also teach the kids something they can use later on.

The other important decision was what time the Young Limmud program should run until. We understand that parents want to go to all the sessions but it can become a long day for the kids, especially the K-Year 2 group. Eventually we decided on 9:15-5:30pm, with the last hour/half hour being down time for the kids. This means parents can attend the entire program minus the last session.

Like every good Jewish meeting food was involved and we spoke about appropriate lunch ideas. We scrapped the sushi making. Whilst fun it’s a little more trouble than it’s worth. We thought about pizza making but then decided to leave the cooking for recess or afternoon tea and have sandwiches for lunch. There will be some yummy cupcake making and decorating though so not to worry for those who enjoy being hands-on in the kitchen.

Lastly we decided to send e-mails out to the various Jewish high schools asking for responsible student volunteers to help out with the kids. If you know of any high school aged children please send them our way!

It will be exciting, hope to see you all there. Book today! The family price includes lunch and programming all day for adults and kids.

Tip for parents: Check out this great site, Silver Star Crafts, we are using for one of the art activities! They do a lot of pre-made activities such as sand art, plaster of paris, suncatchers and other fun ideas for kids birthday parties!
