Limmud-Oz - Jewish identity

I never thought being Jewish is just a matter of classification; we are told – born a Jew, die as a Jew – a package you take with you for life.

But being Jewish is not just a matter of ‘btw I’m Jewish’ – because this classification has no meaning unless you choose to do something about it.

So - What does it mean to be a Jew? Whatever you think it is for you; whatever becomes relevant for your Jewish practice - Yom Tov, Chag, mourning, philosophy, or even just through exposure to other Jewish groups and destiny.

One of the nice things about Limmud (which in Australia is called Limmud Oz) – is that it’s an extension of what it means to be a Jew. You choose to what extent.
Limmud-Oz in Sydney - A day where we all learn
We get together once a year.  We learn and teach each other what it means to each of us the meaning of being Jewish, and to what extent others have decided to take it to. You meet interesting people who find new integrations of contemporary and ancient Jewish Philosophy, you meet artists who revive Jewish rituals from ancient times, and others who build new and contemporary arts under a Jewish umbrella. You become part of those who see the world in a broader view – what does it mean? How? You learn about the politics of nowadays and about history and what underscores it.

Limmud allows you a window to a deep insight of meaningful life and spirit, where ‘getting together’ becomes a powerful strength and leverage to how Jews can make a difference.

Limmud-Oz in Sydney - Jewish culture also includes live music

Sometimes being in Limmud can be similar to a youth group for adults – everyone is on the same level, eye to eye, teach and learn. Limmud in Hebrew means learning.

Its fun, its contemporary and its all volunteer based.

Limmud-Oz takes place in Sydney every 2 years, alternating yearly with Melbourne, over the June long weekend.

Yom Limmud is a concentrated one day Limmud experience. It takes place in Sydney on the Sunday after Limmud-Oz in Melbourne on even years. This allows Sydneysiders to experience some of the international speakers who participate in Melbourne's Limmud-Oz, combined with an opportunity to hear select local speakers.

This year Yom Limmud is on 15 June, 2014 @ UNSW.

I will be there!
